A 20-year-old Palestinian youth from the village of Yarka inside Israel was shot dead today making him victim number 72 this year of violence in Palestinian communities in Israel, as residents accuse the police of total apathy and lack of interest in cracking down on crime or proliferation of illegal weapons in the Palestinian towns and villages in Israel.

Reports said 13 women were among the 72 victims, adding two Palestinians were killed last month from the same family in the same village.

Palestinians in Israel, who make up about 20 percent of the population, have called on the police to take a more active role to put an end to murder in the Palestinian areas in Israel. They also accused the police of discrimination in treatment between Arab and Jewish towns.
